First USC Scoring Session

A Saturday in the studio. The Bridge Recording (Glendale, CA) hosted the first scoring to picture session for the 2015-2016 USC SMPTV class.

The session covered all the aspects of "sweetening" samples with real instruments, producing a hybrid orchestrated cue. The scores were mixed by the one and only Bobby Fernandez, and students alternated on the podium conducting each other's scores.

I conducted several scores by fellow students, while composer Tina Wang led my re-scoring exercise to The Black Stallion, 1979 United Artists picture directed by Carroll Ballard.

This session is the culmination of composer J. Eric Schmidt's composition class at SMPTV.

Program chairman (and eventually original music editor and conductor for The Black Stallion) Dan Carlin supervised the session.
